This pin was placed in this patients finger for a reason rather than a fancy decoration. What do you think this pin could be doing for this patient. Here is a bit of history about the patient. This patient had a pin put in like that to allow him to have a traction splint applied. The traction splint is designed to allow the patient to move while healing occurs in a comminuted joint. Rubberbands will attach to the pins and then the splint portion that circles the finger!
